Who are supportive placement foster children?

Supportive Placement children have special behavioral and/or mental health needs.

What do these children need?

Like all children, they need a loving structured home. They need foster parents willing to learn and willing to work with other professionals to help the child meet his potential.

Where are these children?

These children are ready to move to a family after living in a group home or residential treatment facility. Or they may be at risk of being placed in such a facility.

Who are the supportive placement foster parents?

The foster parents are caring people who want to help a child succeed in life. They enjoy parenting and spending time with children. They can work in cooperation with other professionals for the best interests of the child. Parents can be single or married. They can work or be stay at home parents. They can have children other than the foster child and it makes no difference if they own or rent their home.

They are families very much like yours!

Foster parents receive training to meet the needs of the child placed in their home. Erie County Office of Children and Youth will have 24 hour support available to you when you foster parent a supportive placement child. Supportive foster parents receive financial reimbursement for child care and related costs such as mileage and a yearly clothing allowance. Ongoing therapeutic support, behavioral management training and planned respite are provided.
